The Way

The Way

There’s a right and wrong way to do things
Or so I’ve been told
Folks probably told you too of
The singular path to a good life
A stable life, a respectable life
A life you can be proud of
That other people applaud

Pride dependent on
Other people’s approval
Doesn’t sound very appealing
Transactional, contingent pride
No thank you

I’ll take a life rooted in joy
Freedom, beauty
One that people
Might not understand
Or accept
How it came to be

I know how to build it
I know how, the how
Is daunting
A to-do list of
Release, surrender
Rewiring, challenging
Three seconds, three minutes
Three hours, three days,
Three months, three years
Three decades

I’ll turn and remember
The exact day I realized
The easiest way to do things
Was to accept, what’s already mine
The building was done
Just push, instead of pull
At the door

Selectively Social
