You Need Good Music

The beginning of the day can determine the remainder. We can always redirect throughout the day, but it helps to start with a good foundation. What do we consume at the beginning? I’m breaking away from opening my social media site of choice to keep myself awake. Most days I only want to close my eyes and go back to sleep. I must peel myself from bed and get moving, my latest method is music.

I built a “Morning Sounds” playlist to listen to while getting ready for the day. It’s best used as soon as I wake up. Instead of opening TikTok I slide over to Tidal and shuffle the playlist. Music makes me move and draws me from my mattress to work out or shower and dress. There are less distractions. No draw to scroll or look at my phone. The songs play and I prepare for the day.

Let’s do this together, open your streaming site of choice or wherever you listen to music. Sometimes I miss Windows Media Player. Name the playlist whatever you like, my title is literal but something affirming, “Today is Mine”, or goal oriented, “I Will Not Curse Anyone Out”, work just fine. It’s your playlist, let the title speak to you. Add a description if you like, mine is simply “Good Morning Bri”.

Time to add the songs! If your favorite songs will keep you from diving headfirst back under the covers, add those. Maybe you like to hype yourself up, add the songs that make you feel unstoppable, inevitable even. If you just need the drive to put one foot in front of the other, pick whatever is affirming, uplifting, or comforting to you. A musical hug is almost as good as a physical one.

Don’t feel like you need to add every song right now. I had seven for a long time. You can start with one, it’s your world. My playlist keeps growing, I edit, removing if needed. If a song doesn’t feel right or align after a year, month, or two weeks, it’s gone. Again, this is your playlist, you know what works for you. I promise, you know.

The songs on my playlist make me feel good (“Happy Face”, “Spaceships + Rockets”). Remind me of my daily evolution and what deserves focus (“Symptom of Life”, “angelsxdemons”, “Optimistic”). Builds a new mental space with a tinge of stylish spite (“Break My Soul”, “man at the garden”). Practices a little alchemy (“Break My Soul (The Queens Remix)”).

Connects me with the divine (“Bigger”, “Ego Tripping”, “Goddess”, “If God Spoke”). Hugs my little weirdo (“I Like That”). Banishes a lack of boundaries (“Muddy Feet”). Visualizing (“Last Time (I Seen the Sun)”) and affirming abundance (“Lucky Girl”, “Crystal Clear”). The playlist’s purpose is to ground me, to protect me, to imbue my mind with fortitude. I feel good listening to it; the songs ease my spirit. Joy is essential. Facing the world every day, especially at this wretched time, calls for a morale boost. Let music light the path.

Take a listen for yourself 🙂
